  • FAQ's

    1. What is hypnosis ?

There are many theories surrounding the nature of hypnosis, and these theories may be combined to create a working definition of the term. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation. In this state of relaxation, a person is more suggestible on a subconscious level.

    2. How does hypnosis work ?

A hypnotist begins by giving a person suggestions pertaining to relaxation. Relaxation may be attained through breathing exercise and/or imagery techniques, where a person visualizes him/herself relaxing.

Once deep relaxation has been reached, the hypnotist may then give suggestions that deal with a behavior or thought process. In a normal waking state, the conscious mind may prevent suggestions from taking effect. ("Wait! I know I can't stop smoking, it's impossible"). Your subconscious does not judge suggestions, and under hypnosis, the suggestions bypass the conscious mind and enter into the subconscious mind, where they may be accepted, and change a person's behavior.

    3. What are misconceptions about hypnosis ?

    • Hypnosis is sleep - Hypnosis is NOT sleep. A person in a state of hypnosis is not sleeping, but instead is very relaxed. It is possible that the person becomes so relaxed that he/she may drift off to sleep. If this does happen, the person may simply wake up on his/her own.
    • Hypnosis is loss of control - Hypnosis is NOT loss of control. A person in a state of hypnosis is in complete control. It is up to the individual to accept or reject any suggestion.
    • Hypnosis works best on weak-minded and gullible people - False! A person needs to have extremely good focus and intense concentration for hypnosis to be successful.

    4. What is stage hypnosis ?

Stage hypnosis is hypnosis used for entertainment purposes. A stage hypnotist employs some of the same relaxation techniques as a hypnotherapist (hypnotherapy is hypnosis used for therapeutic purposes such as smoking cessation, weight loss, pain control, etc.), but the suggestions given to subjects on stage are for demonstration and entertainment purposes.

    5. Are you a certified hynotherapist ?

Yes, I am a certified hypnotherapist (C.Ht) and hold an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in developmental and educational psychology.
